In fact, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, hospital emergency rooms treat an estimated 12,500 people each year for falls, cuts, shocks and burns related to holiday decorations. Avoid becoming a statistic. Follow these smart decorating safety tips to help keep your holidays merry, bright and safe.


• Never have open-flame candles on trees or near evergreens.

• Always use non-flammable candleholders.

• Blow out candles when leaving a room or before going to bed.

• Keep lighted candles out of high-traffic areas to avoid being knocked over.

No matter what the season or how you celebrate, always remember that decorating should be done with an eye for safety.
