In One Year, Out the Other

Sentry Insurance gives tips on keeping your goals for 2012Another year, another resolution. Does anyone remember what their resolution was for 2011? This year, instead of making a resolution that will last a few weeks, set realistic goals for yourself that will last a lifetime.  Setting a realistic goal instead of  having a once-a-year, do-or-die approach to change could mean that you 1. actually meet those goals and 2. see those goals met in less time than you thought.

In other words, resolve not to make any more New Year’s Resolutions.
According to, Americans commonly resolve every January to:

  • Lose weight
  • Manage debt/save money
  • Get a better job
  • Get fit
  • Eat right
  • Get a better education
  • Drink less alcohol
  • Quit smoking
  • Reduce stress
  • Take a trip
  • Volunteer to help others

While starting a goal on January 1 is not necessarily a bad idea, keep in mind that they should be for long-term success, not just for the immediate future.
