Facility Safety: General Safety Procedures

StairsKeeping buildings, machinery and premises safe is essential to the success of electronic component manufacturing facilities.

These common scenarios show typical safety hazards found in electronic component manufacturing facilities:

• A painted concrete floor becomes slippery around the production and assembly areas due to lubricant leaks from machinery

• A customer walks from the parking lot and trips and falls on loose asphalt

• Racking is installed without being secured to the wall and floor. Damage to a corner post by a forklift causes the racking to tip and collapse

These and other hazards may exist in your facility. You can help control and manage the insurance risks associated with facility safety by implementing these tips for electronic component manufacturers:

General Safety Procedures

• Make housekeeping a daily priority

• Develop a written housekeeping policy to enhance production efficiency and build morale

• Establish procedures for proper removal and disposal of rags

• Secure racking to floors and walls to prevent tipping or collapse

• Establish a monthly safety self-inspection process throughout the facility

• Develop and implement a reporting process to identify defects in walking surfaces, including concrete floors, mezzanines, catwalks and exterior areas

• Properly construct railings and keep them in place and in good repair
