Cranberry cake and butter sauce recipe

cranberry cake@1800 Culinary Team Member Alicia Thompson shares her grandmother’s recipe for cranberry cake with sweet butter sauce.

My grandmother made this recipe and passed it down to my mom. When my mom went into a smaller apartment, she said we could take what we want and I took some of her recipe books. When I opened them to see what I should try, I saw she had writing recipes in the margins on the blank pages and told what changes to make on the others. It was pretty neat to find!

Cranberry Cake

2 Cups Flour

1 Cup Sugar

1 TB Baking Powder

½ tsp Salt

Sift all of them together and then stir in:

2 Cups Whole Cranberries

1 Cup Milk

1 Tb Melted Butter

Bake at 325 degree oven in a 9” greased square pan. Start checking for doneness at 25 minutes. The cake is done when toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve with warm butter sauce.

Butter Sauce

Melt ½ Cup Butter

Add ¾ Cup Milk or Cream

Add 1 Cup Brown Sugar

Bring to a rolling boil. Turn off heat and leave on a hot burner for 10 minutes. To reheat this sauce add a little milk to it.
